Football Aches and Pains? Milpitas Chiropractor Can Help
The football season kicks off this month, and that means athletes of all stripes – from National Football League (NFL) pros to Milpitas high school players – will be putting their bodies through bruising plays – and experiencing aches and injuries along the way.
Many of those athletes – especially those from the NFL – will seek out chiropractic care to stay fit, diminish pain and discomfort, and also improve their mobility, flexibility and strength.
According to the American Chiropractic Association, experts estimate that 90 percent of world-class athletes use chiropractic care. All NFL teams have a chiropractor on staff, as do some college teams.
And no wonder. Research indicates that chiropractic offers substantial benefits to a wide range of athletes. A 1991 study divided 50 athletes into an experimental and a control group. The experimental group received chiropractic care, and the other didn’t. The athletes were then tested in 11 different areas, including agility, balance, perception of body movement, power, and reaction time.
After six weeks, the control group measured only minor changes in eight of the 11 tests. By contrast, the group under chiropractic care improved significantly in all 11 areas.
In an Australian study in 2010 study, 28 of 57 Australian football players received chiropractic care in addition to conventional medical and management care. Those who received chiropractic care showed a significant difference when it came to lower limb injury prevention, lower limb muscle strains and weeks missed due to non-contact knee injuries.
Why does chiropractic produce such amazing results? Because chiropractors are experts on musculoskeletal health. And the hits that athletes take in a football game can take a toll on their skeletal structure, leading to strains, sprains, and serious trauma. They also affect the spine, shifting vertebrae out of alignment and interfering with the efficient operation of your body’s nervous system.
That misaligned vertebrae can interrupt the normal course of a body’s nerve energy, which flows through the spinal cord and out to the limbs, muscles and organs of the body, leading to dysfunction and even disease.
Chiropractic care can realign the spine, relieving pressure on delicate nerves and allowing your body to heal itself and eliminate pain. At Milpitas Spine Center in Milpitas, Calif., the focus in on whole body wellness, with the aim of helping patients feel better and live healthier lives.
Drs. Dhanish Patel and Scott Riley and their dedicated team of chiropractors and therapists will pinpoint the source of your pain, and devise a custom treatment plan to target the source of that discomfort naturally and systematically.
